Dillon Brooks Docu-series – Humanizing the “Villain” Narrative

I directed and produced a vlog with NBA player Dillon Brooks that showed a different side of him. My goal was to go beyond the “villain” image that people often talk about and reveal his real personality. The vlog focused on his family, his discipline, and his mindset off the court. Through natural storytelling and authentic moments, I wanted people to see the human side of Dillon Brooks and understand the person behind the headlines.

DRAW NIGHT

My goal as a director on this project was to capture the soul of tattooing when all the noise faded. When the shop closed and the pencils came out, that’s where the truth lived. I wanted the audience to feel that quiet focus on the grind, the repetition, the late nights where skill turned into art.

This story wasn’t about fame or followers. It was about respect. Respect for the craft, for the lineage, for the people who put everything into mastering something most would never understand. My job was to translate that discipline and culture into visuals that felt alive the sound of pencil on paper, the low hum of concentration, the small details that showed the difference between someone who tattoos and someone who lives it.

I wanted viewers to feel like they were sitting in that room, breathing the same air, watching two artists who loved the process more than the praise. This episode was about preserving what’s pure in the culture and reminding people that the real work always happened long after the lights went out.
